What’s the Status of Iron Man 4?

20th Aug 2015

Marvel fans all over the world are wondering what the future has in store for the Iron Man series. Movie Pilot offers some reason for concern with a recent article titled “Was Avengers Age of Ultron The Last Outing for These 3 Heroes: Thor, Iron Man & Captain America?

Peter Flynn of Movie Pilot writes, “You wanna know the secret to the Marvel Cinematic Universe? It's the ability to throw caution to the wind and advance what was at first a pretty neat set of superhero movies into what stands as the most profitable shared fictional universe in history! It's the ability to say ‘yeah why not’, and ignore the temptation of simply aping other successes that has spoken to so many. Initially, Marvel seems unstoppable, but the creaking of this initiative's downfall may have begun already… The Avengers: Age of Ultron was a great movie. It didn't quite have the shocking umph of the first movie, but some would perhaps argue it was technically better. It's the best an Avengers sequel could have turned out, yet some people are reading it as a death nell for Marvel. With Age of Ultron, we are seeing comfort, content, and perhaps even complacency. The answer to this problem is definitely to push the series on into uncharted territory, and for many fans, that means switching up the roster, and retiring a few established characters. Let's take a look at a few of the Avengers for whom this could have been the last outing with the team!”

The Venture Capital Post may provide some relief with a recent article titled “ Iron Man 4 News: Robert Downey, Jr. to still reprise role as Tony Stark; 4th installment possible premiere in 2019.” According to the author of the article, “Iron Man 4 is happening, according to director Shane Black. Robert Downey Jr is also coming back to reprise his role as the billionaire, playboy, philanthropist, Tony Stark although rumors have surfaced that he might be replaced by another younger character as Iron Man. According to Breathe Cast, Iron Man 4 has been confirmed to happen by director Shane Black. The director also reportedly said that the film will probably see the return of Robert Downey Jr for the titular role. The delay was reportedly due to the negotiations between Downey and Marvel about the actor's pay, since Downey said to have asked for an increase from his $50 million dollars pay. According to MNR Daily, this request from Downey was said to have been based from the success of the franchise' third instalment which earned $1.22 billion worldwide.”
