Product Description

This Historic Iron Spear Head Forged by Hand, is made to resemble spear heads of around the 10th century.  Spears throughout history were made of iron, and, like sword blades, were fashioned using pattern welding techniques.  Typically lozenge shaped with a thick central rib, the head tapered smoothly to a sharp edge on either side of the rib.  Just like in the days of old this spear head can be fixed to wooden shafts (or another pole of your choosing) using a screw, nail, or rivet.  While spears were certainly used as missiles during the Viking age, there's a disadvantage to throwing your weapon away in a fight. Not only do you lose your weapon, but you risk having your opponent pick it up and use it against you if you miss.  More commonly, the spear was used as a thrusting weapon.  The detailing on this hand forged spear head looks as if it were freshly found in an archeological dig.
